With subsistence farming being a big part of rural life across Southern Africa, we will also offer supplementary workshops focusing on Permaculture and other ecologically friendly agricultural and farming practices.

With Mozambique being along the South Eastern part of the African coast, a lot of coastal towns and villages are very sandy with very little topsoil to sustain plants and vegetation without chemical fertilisers which end up polluting rivers and causing other problems..

MESHOA has practised and proven the benefits of practising permaculture which involves cultivating multiple species together to mimic natural ecosystems and enhance biodiversity. Saving all natural and organic materials like fallen cardboard, plant clippings, cut grass, leaves, paper and more, for composting and mulching over open earth around plant and tree bases to prevent dehydration.

Polyculture (different types of plants) promotes a variety of plant species, which can improve soil health and ecosystem resilience, increasing biodiversity.

Diversifying crops can reduce the risk of widespread pest and disease outbreaks that often affect monocultures.

Different plants can utilize soil in complementary ways, leading to better overall soil health because they aren’t competing for the same nutrients.
